MODO 55 Crash Wall
Sitting adjacent to the Lakeshore East GO Train rail line, the MODO Condos development required a crash wall to protect against potential train derailments. Due to track clearance constraints, structural shotcrete was proposed to allow for the use of formwork with reduced bracing and space requirements. Spanning 300’ in length, 20’ in height, and 5.5’ in thickness, the heavily reinforced wall incorporated embedded steel H-piles and took a volume of over 800m³ of low heat-of-hydration shotcrete, giving the final structure its light, monolithic appearance. Thoughtfully planned sequencing for pour breaks and rebar installation ensured full consolidation of the rebar mats and H-piles. One of CSI’s most impressive shotcrete builds to date, this project highlights the versatility of the shotcrete process in high-performance infrastructure applications.
